    RRB Technician & Assistant Loco Pilot Syllabus 2018


    The 1st stage examination of RRB Technician & ALP will be of easy to moderate level. The RRB Technician & Alp exam consist of mainly:

    Mathematics – RRB Technician & Assistant Loco Pilot Syllabus

    As the exact number of questions that will be asked from each subject is not specified in the exam pattern, therefore it is expected that around 15-19 Qs will be asked from Mathematics portion.

    #1. Simplification & Approximation

    • Weightage: 3-4 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Easy, Less time consuming
    • Question Types: Based on BODMAS, Approximate Values, Percentage, Fractions etc.

    #2. Coordinate Geometry

    • Weightage: 2-3 Questions
    • Difficulty Level: Easy to Difficult, Moderately Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible.
    • Question Types: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts, Triangle and its various kinds of centers, lines.

    #3. Mensuration

    • Weightage: 3-4 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate in Difficulty, Moderately Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible.
    • Question Types: Triangle, Circle, Trapezium, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square Base.

    #4. Arithmetic’s

    • Weightage: 2-3 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Could be tricky, Moderately time Consuming
    • Question Types: Progression, Matrices, Integration, Limit, Logarithmic

    #5. Number Series

    • Weightage: 2-3 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Scoring, Easy to Solve, Less Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible
    • Question Types: Problems on Completing the Series, Finding the Missing Term, Finding the Wrong Term.

    #6. Trigonometry

    • Weightage: 1-2 Questions
    • Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate in Difficulty, Moderately Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible.
    • Question Types: Trigonometry, Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Height and distances (simple problems only).

    #7. Probability

    • Weightage: 1-2 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Could be tricky, Moderately time Consuming
    • Question Types: very basic problems on probability.

    #8. Algebra

    • Weightage: 1-2 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Scoring, Easy if Concepts Clear and Steps Followed, Could be Tricky, Time Consuming.
    • Question Types: Basic Algebraic Identities, Polynomials, Elementary Surds, Quadratic Equations, Linear Equations in One and Two or more Variables.

    #9. Ratio and Proportion

    • Weightage: 1-2 Qs
    • Difficulty Level:  Easy to Moderate , Moderately Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible
    • Question Types: Simple Ratios, Mean Proportional, Componendo or Dividendo, Direct or Indirect Proportion.

    #10. Speed, Time and distance

    • Weightage: 1-2 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Moderate, Moderately Time Consuming
    • Question Types: Relative Speed, Average Speed, Problems on Train, Boat & Stream.

    #11. Number System

    • Weightage: 1-2 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Could be tricky, Moderately time Consuming
    • Question Types: Divisibility & Remainder, Multiples & Factors, Integers, LCM & HCF.

    #12. Profit and Loss

    • Weightage: 0-2 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Scoring, Easy if Proper Steps Followed, Moderately Time Consuming.
    • Question Types: Profit and Loss, Successive Selling type questions, Partnerships, Discount & MP

    #13. Time and Work

    • Weightage: 0-1 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Moderate, Moderately Time Consuming
    • Question Types: Work Efficiency, Work & Wages, Pipes & Cisterns etc.

    #14. Interest

    • Weightage: 0-1 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Scoring, Easy if Formulas & Proper Steps Followed, Moderately Time Consuming.
    • Question Types: Simple Interest

    #15. Percentages

    • Weightage: 0-1 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Easy to Solve, Less Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible.
    • Question Types: Calculation-oriented basic percentage.

    #16. Averages

    • Weightage: 0-1 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Easy to Solve, Less Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible.
    • Question Types: Average Weight/Height/Age/Marks, Average Money Expenditure, Average Temperature etc.

    General Intelligence & Reasoning – RRB Technician & Assistant Loco Pilot Syllabus

    From this subject 12 to 16 Qs are expected to be asked in RRB ALP & Technician CBT exam.

    #1. Analogy

    • Weightage: 2-3 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Easy, Not Time Consuming, Direct Questions are asked.
    • Question Types: These questions will test your Genaral Knowledge (Semantic), Logics (Symbolic, Number) and Visual Imagination (Figures).

    #2. Classification

    • Weightage: 2 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Easy, Not Time Consuming, Direct Questions are asked.
    • Question Types: Semantic (GK and Meaning), Symbolic (Letters based), Number based

    #3. Coding and decoding

    • Weightage: 2-3 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Moderate , Moderate to Highly Time Consuming, Moderate Accuracy possible.
    • Question Types: Analogy based, Letter Shifting, Coding Letters of a Word.

    #4. Problem Solving

    • Weightage: 2-4 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Logical Puzzles can be tricky, Easy to Moderate
    • Question Types: Circular and Linear Puzzles, Logical and Mathematical Puzzles, Clock & Calendar problems, Analytical decision making problems.

    #5. Blood Relation

    • Weightage: 1 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Easy & less time taking. More accuracy is possible.
    • Question Types: General blood relation problem, Family Tree.

    #6. Venn Diagrams

    • Weightage: 1-2 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate, Logical Venn Diagrams can be tricky.
    • Question Types: Logical Venn Diagrams, Venn Diagram based Problems and Syllogism

    #7. Alphabet & Word Test

    • Weightage: 1-2 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Moderate to High Accuracy Possible, Time Consuming, Easy in Difficulty
    • Question Types: Logical Sequence, Meaningful sequence, Word Formation, Matrix.

    #8. Non-Verbal Reasoning

    • Weightage: 1-2 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Moderate, High Accuracy Possible, Visual Imagination Required, Elimination of Options Required
    • Question Types: Paper folding & cutting, Embedded figures, Mirror Image, Water Image, Cubes and Dices, Pattern Completion, Counting Figures.

    • Question Types: Drawing Inference & conclusions, Statement & Assumptions, Statement & Arguments, Course of Action.

    • Weightage: 0-1 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Easy, Direct Questions, Less Time Consuming
    • Question Types: Route & network based

    #11. Series

    • Weightage: 0-1 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Tricky, Maybe Time Consuming, Questions will test the Clarity of your Thought Process.
    • Question Types: Semantic, Number, Figure based, Alphabets based.

    #12. Missing Numbers

    • Weightage: 0-1 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Moderate, High Accuracy Possible
    • Question Types: Missing number in Matrix and Diagram

    #13. Order & Ranking

    • Weightage: 0-1 Qs
    • Difficulty Level: Scoring, Easy if concepts clear and steps followed, Could be Tricky, Not very Time Consuming
    • Question Type: Questions on arranging by age, floor, rank, order in row etc

    The expected number of Questions in General Science is 18-23. The questions will also test your knowledge of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect.

    General Awareness – RRB Technician & Assistant Loco Pilot Syllabus

    The questions in RRB Technician & ALP exam will test your general awareness of environment around you. It is expected that 16 to 20 Qs will be asked from this subject. You will also cover the current affairs of last 4-5 months’ before the exam.

    #1. Polity

    • Weightage: 5-7 Qs
    • Questions on Constitution of India (Fundamentals Rights), Government Portfolios, Panchayati Raj, Supreme court & recent amendments based on recent news will be asked.
